MORGAN COUNTY-Morgan County Sheriff Ana Franklin released a statement concerning an investigation into distribution of prison contraband by a Detention Officer at the Morgan County Jail:

“Agents with the Morgan County Drug Task Force ended an investigation involving prison contraband last night with the arrest of Evan Leath Burgess, (W/M 26), a Detention Officer at the Morgan County Jail.

Agents received information from multiple sources that Burgess had been involved in bringing illegal items into the jail. The Drug Task Force began an investigation that uncovered a plan for Burgess to bring in narcotics to an inmate in return for money.
Burgess was stopped July 30, 2016, after Agents observed him meeting with an individual and receiving a package in the parking lot of Target shopping center. Burgess was arrested and charged with Trafficking in Oxycontin and booked into the Morgan County Jail with a $50,000.00 bond.
Additional arrests may be pending.”
