FLORENCE-Brad Holmes of the Florence Police released a statement on a developing case in Cape Coral, Florida where two former Lauderdale County residents have been arrested on multiple counts of sexual and physical abuse against their adopted and foster children:
“Florence Police release statement on the department’s involvement in the developing case in Cape Coral Florida concerning Daniel and Jenise Spurgeon, who are former residents of Florence (at this point I do not have the dates that the couple lived in our area). That said, let me clarify our agency’s involvement.
Our detectives were contacted Tuesday by authorities in Cape Coral and Lee County
Florida concerning their ongoing investigation into child abuse in their jurisdiction. At this point, our detectives are monitoring the situation in Florida and working closely with law enforcement to determine if any of the crimes alleged occurred in our jurisdiction. We are actively working with law enforcement in Florida as well as Florida Child Services and Alabama Department of Human Resources officials. If it is determined that any of these alleged crimes occurred in Alabama we will thoroughly investigate those crimes and seek prosecution in Alabama.
Again, this is a developing situation and case and we will be in a better position to provide further information in the days and weeks to come.”
