Gladys Emma Lee Wadkins Nichelson, 95, of Cherokee, passed away at home with her family on July 11, 2016. Her visitation will be Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Harris Chapel Cemetery with Bro. George Henley, Chuck Lansdell and Bro. Wade Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Gladys was a member of Harris Chapel Baptist Church where she served as a nursery worker and a Sunday school teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orbie Nichelson; and her great-grandchild, Zachary.
She is survived by her son, Ronnie Nichelson (Hilda) and daughter, Loretta Wallace, both of Cherokee; grandchildren, Keith Nichelson (Susy), Tara Wadkins (Dale), Rod Wallace (Pam), Tina Lansdell (Chuck), Chad Nichelson (Stacy), and Courtney Wallace (Wade); nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many who loved her dearly.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Compassus Hospice and to Angie, Mimi, Steve, and Billie.
Pallbearers will be Keith Nichelson, Rod Wallace, Gabe Wallace, Chad Marlar, Josh Nix, Justin Rutland, Joe “Doc” Cornelius, and Frankie Wadkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Chad Nichelson, James Wadkins, Bennie Marlar, Carol Nix, Bradley Marlar, McLloyd Wadkins, Jerry Nix, Barry Murphy, Jordan Nichelson, Curtis Wallace, Kenneth Thomason, Bob Vess, and Jacob Wallace will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harris Chapel Cemetery Fund or to the Harris Chapel Cooking Angels.
