Rubert “Buck” Buchanan – Obituary

rupertRubert “Buck” Buchanan , 88, died Sunday July 3, 2016 at Rosewood Assisted Living in Tupelo after an extended illness. Rubert was born on March 25, 1928 in the Greenwood Springs Community of Monroe County to Raymond Whitman Buchanan and Ola Mae Smith Buchanan. He grew up in Prairie and attended the public schools there. “Buck” married Mollie Frances McCamey Buchanan on March11, 1945, a happy marriage that prospered until her death on Dec. 19, 1996. He began his railroad career with the old G.M. & O. Railroad, retiring as Conductor with then named Mid -South Railroad. He and his family lived in Meridian for 40 years where he was a member of the Anchor Church of God of Prophecy. “Buck” loved his three daughters and their families. He especially doted over his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who affectionately called him Pap. He loved walking, bird hunting in earlier life, cooking great meals for his family, country music and singing. He and his wife were known for their dancing the “jitter bug” in their day.

A celebration of life service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Ritchie Ables officiating. Burial will follow in Boone’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 PM – 7 PM today (Tuesday) and from 1 PM to service time Wednesday all at Holland- Okolona Chapel, which is honored to be serving the family.

Survivors include his three daughters, Linda Sullivan (Preston) of Okolona, Paula Clark (Eddie) of Forest, MS and Kim Fredricksen (Terry) of Hunstville, AL. 6 grandchildren; Heath Sullivan, Justin Sullivan (Emily), Edwin Clark (Angie), Lance Clark (Michele), Bridget Clark, and Peyton Fredricksen. 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mollie Frances, his sisters, Mary Lou Earnest, Helen Russell and Nora Ruth Vernon. His brothers, Whit, Edward, Tommy, Gilbert and Hubert Buchanan.

Pallbearers will be Edwin Clark, Lance Clark, Chandler Clark, Heath Sullivan, Justin Sullivan, and Rodney Buchanan.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association., Mississippi Chapter, 1900 Dunbarton Dr. Suite 1, Jackson, MS. 39216.
