Thurlo Thornton born Franklin Co. Alabama September 23, 1930, of Muscle Shoals, AL passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016. Visitation will be Saturday, July 02, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Colbert Memorial Chapel, with service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will be in Bethsadia Cemetery. Brother Greg Beasley, and Brother Hershel Quinn officiating. He was drafted into Army 1952-spent two years in Korea and Japan. We lived in Peoria and Morton, Ill working for Caterpillar Tractor Company for 31 years 1950-1981. Mr. Thornton worked as volunteer at Shoals Hospital for eight years and several years for Relay for Life and a charter member of Southside Baptist Church, Peoria and then moved to Morton, Ill in 1956. Thurlo was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church, saved, and baptized in Peoria, Ill in 1955.
Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by father, Alex Thornton; mother, Lucy Adcock Thornton; brothers, Alex “Junior”, and J.C. Thornton; sisters, Mary Kathryn Myrick and Lucy Arlene Myrick Bruton.
Survivors are wife Agnes McGregor Thornton, married on November 12, 1947 in Tuscumbia, Alabama; son, Jack R. Thornton (Gail Lauder) of Florida; brother, Ollie Thornton and friend, L.G. Blankenship; grandsons, Jared R. Thornton (April), and Joseph R. Thornton; great grandsons, Jared Jr., and Logan Thornton, all live in the Cleveland, Ohio area; step grandchild, Candace Andar (Adam); step great grandchildren, Jeanette and Dimitri. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers are Jerry McGee, Denny Robinson, Charles Cooner, Ray Counts, and Doug Flannigan.
