Jerry Grant McElroy – Obituary

Jerry Grant McElroy passed away Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the age of 71. Mac was born on March 25, 1945 to Ada Sims and Henry Harrison McElroy. Mac is a decorated Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a past Commander of the VFW Post 4190 and was a member of the American Legion. Mac retired after 34 years of service at Caterpillar in Peoria, Illinois. He was a member of Community South Church of God. Mac was an avid sports fan who loved Alabama football, Kentucky basketball, the Cincinnati Reds baseball and loved to play golf. Mac was preceded in death by his sister, Gertrude Warren Day; brothers, Clifford Warren and Billy Murphy and grandson, Hunter McElroy.

Mac is survived by his wife, Donna Medlin McElroy; daughters, Becky (Gerald) Richard of Decatur and Alisha (Adam Aldridge) McElroy of Decatur; son, Kenny (Pam) McElroy of Hartselle; sister-in-law, Ruby Murphy of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Gary Webster officiating. A time of visitation will be today, June 29, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will be at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur.
