Jerry Louis Thompson, 69, died Thursday, June 23, 2016, at his home in the Peaceful Valley community while surrounded by his family. Born in Columbus, Mr. Thompson grew up and went to school in the Jackson, MS, area, and served four years in the United States Marine Corps, earning a Purple Heart and an honorable discharge as a combat veteran.
The son of the late Homer Louis and Kathryn Boone Thompson of Jackson, Thompson attended the Cardsville Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and sports fan, active in his church and community, and took great interest in veterans’ affairs and issues. Before being injured in an industrial accident, he worked as a journeyman electrician for JESCO, Inc.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Johnny “Sonny” Thompson of the Jackson area; and his in-laws, Coy and Clytee Bean.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sarah Elizabeth Bean Thompson; two sons, Matthew Thompson of New Orleans and Marcus Thompson (Marcie) of Lawrence, KS; his in-laws include Ginger Thompson, Diane Rock (Roy), David Bean (Nancy); his nephews include Andy Bean (Kathy), Jeff Thompson, Jamie Rock (Beth), Josh Bean (Nicole), and Cody Bean (Laken); his nieces include Lynn Thompson, Jennifer Lowery (Colin), Debbie Bales (Pat), Leslie May (Robert), Amy Joe Hoffman (Raymond), and Lacey Jean Cox (Jason). He is also survived by numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as cousin Carolyn Dill-Barnes.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Mike Todd officiating. Burial will be in the Bourland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be provided by the Marine Corps League Honor Guard Detachment 1220. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Dale Moore, Barry Green, Donnie Bennett, and Lathan Walton.
