Laverne Floyd Black – Obituary

Funeral service for Laverne Floyd Black, 92, will be Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 2:00 PM at East Highland Baptist Church with Bro. Walter Blackman and Bro. Charles Stone officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM also at the Church.

Mrs. Black died on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She was born November 12, 1923, in Morgan County to Samuel Marks Floyd and Minnie O’Retha (King) Floyd. Laverne was born in Morgan County near Priceville. She went to a little community school at Mason Ridge, but rode a bus to Priceville School later. She went to the Baptist Churches that were close to where she and her family lived. She was active in each church that her family attended. She taught elementary school in Morgan County, retiring after 18 years of service. Laverne was a Charter member of East Highland Baptist Church and wrote the Church Newsletter “Happy Highlander” for 25 years. She had four brothers: Jessie, Bernard, Luther and George Floyd and two sisters: Bessie Floyd Blankenship and Daisy I.B. Sharp, all of her siblings preceded her in death as well as her parents and her husband: Milford Black.

Larry Black and his wife, Diane

Two Grandchildren:
Andrea Greenhill and
Kimberly Pike

Five Great Grandchildren:
Jacob Ryan,
Brady Greenhill,
Samuel Pike,
Bennett Pike and
Brandt Pike

Pallbearers will be Family & Friends.
