ruthFuneral for Ruth Irene Adkins Barker, 101, of Decatur will be Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 1 p.m. at St. Peter M.B. Church with Reverend Jerry Baker officiating and Sharpley Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Adkins Family Cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Barker, who died Saturday, May 28, 2016, at River City Rehabilitation Center, was born Nov. 11, 1914, in Morgan County to Lawson and Mary Garth-Adkins. She worked faithfully in the church and the community, always putting her needs last and everyone else’s first. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Henry Barker (married Sept. 13, 1932); daughter, Bennie Ruth Huber; three brothers, Les, George and Tom Adkins; and one sister, Lorene Adkins-Humphrey.

Survivors include one son, Lee A. Barker Sr. of Decatur; one daughter, Carolyn F. Barker of Decatur; 14 grandchildren, Ulonda Barker, Tanya Bolden, Natasha Barker, Ben Mitchell, Kimberly Mitchell, Aubrey Mitchell, all of Decatur, Lacreisha Barker of Madison, Lee A (Donita) Barker Jr., Tameka (Charles) Black, Tony Garth, Cynthia Ash, all of Decatur, Miranda Morrow-Bartell of Detroit, Michigan, Brandi (Charles) Johnson, Millicent Huber, all of Decatur; a host of loving great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Deacons of St. Peter M.B. Church. Honorary pallbearers will be St. Peter M.B. Church.
