gaylandGayland Ledrew Wise, 68, of Okolona passed away at his residence on Saturday, May 21, 2016. Born on October 26, 1947, he was the son of the late Kirby “Bugg” Wise, Jr. and Laura Carlisle Wise. He was a member of Okolona Church of Christ. A man who dearly loved life, he especially loved crappie fishing and earlier in life he enjoyed bass fishing, deer hunting and golfing. His many friends and friendships spanned decades. An avid conversationalist, he was known for his ability to talk to friend and new acquaintance alike. He was a Mason and a Shriner.
A graduate of the 1965 class of Okolona High school, he also attended Freed-Hardeman University where he was a member of the gymnastics team. An American patriot, he later served in the United States Air Force as a military police, working with canine units in both the Philippines and stateside. An Ole Miss Rebel through and through, he kept his television tuned to anything Ole Miss, fishing programs or the western channel.
A service celebrating his life will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Home in Okolona. Visitation will be Monday night from 5-8 p.m. and from noon until service time on Tuesday. Bro. Jimmy Tackett will be officiating with burial at Lee Memorial Park. Holland Funeral Directors Okolona is honored to be serving the family.
