William Ransome Gordon – Obituary

williamWilliam Ransome Gordon, 87, died at home Thursday, May 12, 2016.

Billy was born in Athens, Ala. Dec. 30, 1928 to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gordon.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Curtis Gordon and David Gordon; and his first wife of 25 years, Mary Carolyn Legg Gordon. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ann Kennemer Gordon; sons, William Ransome Gordon Jr. (Myra) of Talladega, Thomas Henderson Gordon (Kerri) of Athens, and James Walter Gordon (Deanna) of Athens; grandchildren, Justin Gordon, Amy Jones, Jenna Miller, Emily Gordon, Trey Gordon and Sophie Gordon; and great-granddaughter, Mia Jones.

Billy was a retired farmer and was a Mason for more than 50 years. He was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church and the Logan Bible Class. During the Korean War, he served in the Army as a corporal in the 1343rd Engineer Combat Battalion.

Visitation services will be from 1-2:45 p.m. Sunday, May 15 at Limestone Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Eric Miller, Justin Gordon, Trey Gordon, Patrick Jones, David Gordon and Vernon Gordon.
