It is with profound sorrow that Catherine Matras of Huntsville announces the death of her beloved husband of 36 years John R. Matras.
John was a QA Engineer with SCI since 2008, hailing from NE. He was a 1975 EE graduate of the UNL, a lifetime alum member, and active in “The Alabama Nebraskans.” He loved to golf and he and his father were proud to win the esteemed Omaha Field Club Championship, shortly after Cathy and John wed. (Must have brought him good luck.)
John was a real lover of children, pets and good folks. He took the Huntsville Hospital Clown class shortly after he saw how much fun Cathy was having volunteering. He sang on the church choir and was a 4th Degree with the Knights of Columbus.
John was preceded in death by his loving parents Helen and Leo Matras, and sister Donna Nielsen from Omaha . He is survived by his Sister Marge Hoehn and Brother Frank and has a large extended family in Nebraska that John cherished. Please keep John and Cathy in your prayers.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Pathfinders in Huntsville; a safe haven for people with substance abuse problems. A memorial celebrating John’s life will be held at: Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 13550 Chaney Thompson Road, SE, Huntsville at the corner of Hobbs Road Saturday, April 10th at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Please come and join us in a joyful celebration of a sweet and loving man who has completed his earthly journey.
