Martha Rachel Geneva Curry Edwards – Obituary

MarthaMartha Rachel Geneva Curry Edwards, 84, died suddenly, Sunday, April 10, 2016 at North MS Medical Center. She was born in Monroe County, January 25, 1932 to Claude Curry and Ada Lee Boyd Curry. She and her late husband, Thomas A. Edwards, Sr., made their home in Nettleton where they worked, raised their family, and attended Nettleton Pentecostal Church. Geneva worked as a seamstress in the garment industry, her latest employment being at Hunter Sadler where she retired after twenty plus years of service.

She loved cooking and baking for her family and friends. She enjoyed working in the yard and tending to her flowers, camping and fishing, watching Jimmy Swaggart on TV and listening to the Gaither’s gospel music. Her hobby was collecting angels and crosses of all kinds. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family whom she loved dearly.

A service celebrating her life will be at 2 PM, Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Nettleton Pentecostal Church with Bro. Larry Davis officiating. Private burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 5 PM to 8 PM and Wednesday from 11 AM to service time. Condolences may be e-mailed to hollandfuneraldirectors@comcast.net.

Geneva is survived by her daughter, Karen Cooper (Hoyle) of Nettleton and son, Thomas “Buddy” Edwards (Jean) of Nettleton; three sisters, Alice Nicholson (Billy) of Nettleton, Inez Langford (John) of Wren, and Gail Legon (Sammy) of Anniston, AL; six grandchildren, Kevin Hancock (Stacy), Anthony Gray (Kayla), Justin Gray (Megan), Jacob Gray, Jeff Edwards (Tammy), and Misty Robertson (Tyler); 8 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Preston, Adrianna, Chelsey, Rachel, Skyler, Austin, and Katie Beth; 2 great grandchildren, Aaiden and Kylie, and a host of nieces, nephews,, and other near and dear relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters, Maytee Riley and Bobbie Edwards.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Kevin Hancock, Anthony Gray, Justin Gray, Jacob Gray, Jeff Gray, and great-grandson, Tyler Hancock.
