josephJoseph E. Gamble, 76, passed away after an extended illness on March 28, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Leon Gamble and Maurice Mott Gamble.

After completing Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, Alabama, He joined the Navy and was assigned to the USS Oriskany. He was honorably discharged in August, 1960 at which time he entered Howard College (Samford University) in Birmingham, AL where he earned his BA degree. He then moved with wife and son to Decatur, Georgia where he attended Columbia Theological Seminary, earning a Masters of Divinity Degree. Upon graduation in 1967 he began his ministry at Parkway Presbyterian Church in Parker, Florida. He left his ministry there to do a clinical internship at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham, AL. In 1971 he began his ministry at First Presbyterian Church in Sheffield, AL where he served for four years. He also attended the University of Alabama where he received a Masters Degree in Social Work. He worked as a certified alcohol and drug clinical supervisor at several treatment centers. For the last 15 years he has counseled individuals and families suffering from the disease of addiction. He has served as stated supply for Williams Chapel Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, AL for the last 5 years.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years and mother of his children, Vicki Gamble; son Berkley Gamble and wife Pratiksha of Madison, AL; son Keith Gamble and wife Katrina of Pell City, AL; daughter Beth McCallister and husband Mitch of Harvest, AL; 10 grandchildren and one great grandson.

The family wishes to thank his caregivers at ECM Hospital and Glenwood Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care he received as well as a great deal of gratitude to those in recovery who shared their hopes and experiences to support him during this time.

Visitation will be Friday, April 1, 2016 at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Services will be held the following day at First Presbyterian Church in Sheffield at 2:00 p.m. He will Lie-In-State from 1:15-2:00 at the church. Rev. Jaina Glaze and Rev. Jim Thompson will be officiating.

Pallbearers are: Brad Balentine, Randy Box, Scott Hatton, Joe Holt, Chuck Lenz and Matthew Moffatt.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
