Visitation for Odell Carpenter, 87, of Decatur who passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Roselawn Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Brother Joe Holmes officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Spruce Pine Cemetery.
He was born Jan. 13, 1929 in Spruce Pine to Walter Carpenter and Flora Streetman Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by three sisters, Inez McCullar (RJ), Fay Burfield (Coy) and Syble Hill (Vernon); and son, Jerry Dale Carpenter.
He is surrived by his daughter, Peggy Mager (Tom); his brother, Thomas Carpenter; grandchildren, Daniel Mager (April), Jessica Toney (Ben); great-grandchildren, Emma Toney, Willa Toney, Lola Toney, Anna Mager, Grace Mager and Thomas Mager; and many nieces and nephews.
He proudly served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and earned his electrical degree from Calhoun Community College. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
