Fred H. Betterton – Obituary

Fred H. Betterton, 90, of Huntsville, passed away Sunday. Mr. Betterton, a resident of Huntsville since 1956, worked at Huntsville Manufacturing Company as a loom fixer for 28 years. He worked at USBI for 10 years on the Military Space Program. He was known as “Mr. B.” He was active in sports and pitched horseshoes in the Alabama State Horseshoe Association. He won First Place in the State, and also pitched in the World Championship. He was inducted in the Horseshoe Hall of Fame in New York.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ima Bell Betterton; son, Joe H. Betterton; and granddaughter, Tiffany Betterton. Survivors include his daughter, Freda Simms; son, Erby Wayne Betterton; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will immediately follow in the chapel with the Rev. Chris Powell officiating. Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
