Funeral for Rev. James L. Newman, 90, of Moulton will be Friday, March 11, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Pullen, C. Michael Sherman and Rev. Phil Waldrep officiating.
Rev. Newman gave Rev. Waldrep his start in his ministry at age 14 by allowing him to preach his first revival at Shady Valley Baptist Church.
Entombment will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Rev. Newman, who died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Parkway Medical Center, was born July 22, 1925, in Tanner to Raymond and Lola Newman. He was a member of Fish Pond Baptist Church and faithfully served his Lord as a minister for 64 years. He also served his country during World War II. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, family, friends and spreading the gospel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lacy Louise Newman; daughter, Peggy Hill; grandson, Ramey Hill and his parents.
Survivors include three sons, Stanley (Kay) Newman, Allen (Debbie) Newman and Randy (Diane) Newman; six daughters, Dot (Guinn) Sparks, Linda (Ricky) Alexander, Ellen (Johnny) Falciani, Regina (Phil) Kelley, Sandy (Joe) Fantocone and Candy (Rodney) Allen; son-in-law, Roger Hill; two sisters, Rachel Parker and Margaret Tarpley; 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be sons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.
