Ted Lipman, age 89 of Pulaski, TN. died on February 25, 2016 at his home. Ted was born July 4, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York to Harry J. and Mary May Lipman. He served in World War II; 9th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Attended and graduated from Vanderbilt University, A&S, B.A. Degree, Class of 1949. Operated and helped to grow Denbo Scrap Materials to prominence in the scrap industry with Charles Denbo (brother-in-law) until his death in 1979. Tennessee Southern Railroad was acquired in 1988. Served as Chairman of the Board. Operated Denbo Scrap Materials until year 2000 when he joined with Denbo Iron & Metal of Decatur, Alabama, L. Miller and Sons of Huntsville, Alabama to form Tennessee Valley Recycling LLC and served as Co-Chairman. Industry wise, he co-founded a very successful shredder seminar presenting it every year for 30 years. He served as a national board member and also as Chairman of I.S.R.I’s committee involving Shredders, receiving recognition for his participation and service. In the Southeast, he occupied all positions in the regional trade organization. For the Giles County and Pulaski community he represented as a member and Chairman of the Industrial Development Group for many years. Helping to locate some 6 industries to provide employment for local citizens. For the state of Tennessee, served as a member of the Tennessee Association of Business. He later became a Board Member of the T.A.B. He then became Chairman of the Board of Directors for T.A.B. serving all of Tennessee. For his activities, he received recognition from Governor Don Sundquist. He was also a Trustee on the Board of Directors of Martin Methodist College in Pulaski. Charter member of Hillcrest Country Club. Member of Pulaski Exchange Club for 63 years and a member of American Legion and VFW.
Ted is survived by his wife of 65 years Dede Denbo Lipman; his children Larry (Betty) Lipman of Pulaski, a daughter Marianne (Dr. Terry) Levenson of Conway, SC. His grandchildren Eden Lipman, and fiancé, Joshua Weiss of Chattanooga TN, Jenna (David) Levine Queens, NY, Dr. Joshua B. (Dana) Levenson of Alpharetta, GA and Dr. Tressa Levenson and finace, Morgan White of Atlanta, GA. Great-grandson Maddox Levenson. He was preceded in death by his brother William Lipman of Long Island, NY.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Bennett-May-Giles County Funeral Home in Pulaski, TN. Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at The Temple Ohabai Sholom cemetery at 2001 Fifteenth Avenue North in Nashville, TN. Pallbearers were Dr. Joshua Levenson, Morgan White, Joshua Weiss, Don Denbo, Barry Lapidus, Steven Lapidus and Dennis Prince. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Temple Ohabai Sholom, 5015 Harding Pike, Nashville, TN 37205.
