FLORENCE– First Fridays is kicking off its 11th season Friday, March 4, with an Easter theme that will include some special guests and some special performers on the music stage. The event will take place from 5-8 p.m. on Court Street in historic downtown Florence.
“We want this event to kick off the new season and be festive and fun for the whole family,” said First Fridays co-chairwoman Jennifer Smith. “We believe the best way to do that is to bring out the Easter bunny and refresh some of our favorite spring time traditions.”
Beginning at 5:30 p.m., participants are invited to wear Easter bonnets and march down Court Street with the Easter Bunny and his friends as part of the first Bunny March. Afterwards, from 6-7 p.m. children can take their turn meeting the Easter Bunny, or they can play Bunny Bingo for a chance to win a gift certificate to a downtown restaurant.
Music will kick off on the Big River Broadcasting stage at 5 p.m. with Leah Rose. Her performance will be followed at 6 p.m. by Lillian
Glanton, a local woman who has appeared on the hit television show, “American Idol.” Jacob Stiefel will take the stage at 7 p.m.
First Fridays wouldn’t be complete without the dozens of vendors lining Court Street. In March, expect to find a wide variety of artisans and crafters, from wood workers to jewelry makers to potters.
“The music and the vendors are what First Fridays has come to be known for,” said Belinda Duke, First Fridays co-chairwoman. “They set the tone for the event and help us create memorable experiences for those who participate.”
First Fridays, which is sponsored by Listerhill Credit Union, is a committee of Downtown Florence Unlimited and takes place the first Friday of every month during March through December. First Fridays is a rain-or-shine event.
