Geraldine Camp Byars, age 96, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016, from noon until 2 p.m. at First Methodist Church, Sheffield. Her funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary with Bill Bedsole officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield.
Mrs. Byars was a native of Decatur and a member of First Methodist Church, Sheffield. She was a graduate of Montevallo University with a degree in music and English. She taught violin for over 50 years and started the Shoals Symphony Orchestra. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Wayne Byars.
Survivors include her sons, David Brice Byars, Richard Camp Byars (Robbin), and Phillip Cavanaugh Byars, and grandchildren, Patricia Elizabeth Byars and Virginia Walsh.
