Ethel Butler Grigsby Rhodes, 96, passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, at Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing Home following an extended illness.
She worked at ECM Hospital as an LPN and later as a dental assistant before retiring early to be a full-time homemaker. She was a faithful Christian and an active member of the Glendale Church of Christ. She loved to cook and sew and garden. She loved the Lord, and her most cherished legacy is that she was able to transmit her faith in Jesus to so many members of her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover Cleveland Butler and Minnie Louise Butler; two sisters, Iva Butler Freeman and Ruby Butler Smith; two brothers, Leon Butler and Virgil Butler; and two husbands, William R. Grigsby and Robert C. Rhodes, all Florence, Alabama.
She is survived by her son, James K. Grigsby (Jim) and wife, Mary Fran, of Florence, Alabama; and her daughter, Patricia Grigsby McCarley (Pat), of Pulaski, Tennessee; and her sister, Mildred Butler Behel, also of Florence, Alabama; and five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be a graveside service at the Florence City Cemetery on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at 11 a.m. with Joel Caudle, the minister of the Glendale Church of Christ, officiating.
