John Otis Franklin Jr., of Decatur, passed away Jan. 31, 2016. The visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 4, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Roselawn Funeral Home chapel. A memorial service will be held immediately after at 6 p.m.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John O. Franklin Sr. and Jessie Bell Blake.
Mr. Franklin is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sue Franklin; daughters, Mary Franklin, Dana McCutcheon (Jeff) and Ginger Carr (Kia); son, David Cofield (Vanessa); 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
John was very knowledgeable and loved to spend time reading. He was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He cherished his service to this country, spending four years in the Navy, and another six in the Army. Following his service, he became a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He spent time as the past post commander in Midland, Michigan. He also became the Alabama president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to Hospice of the Valley, 240 Johnson St. SE, Decatur, AL 35601, or the Boy’s and Girl’s Club, 1602 Beech St., Decatur, AL 35601.
