Graveside services for Mr. Ziggie Smithson “Smitty” Ussery, age 74, will be held Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at 1 p.m. from Poplar Creek Cemetery in Leighton, Alabama. Brother Scott Hauss will officiate with Kent Funeral Home, of Eufaula, directing. The church will be available in case of inclement weather. Mr. Ussery died Saturday, Jan. 30, at his residence after an extended illness.
Born Sept. 2, 1941, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Mr. Ussery was the son of the late Lowell Curtis and Clara Corter Ussery. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Beverly U. Wells, Arminda U. Chapman and Cheryl U. George.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Sue Ussery, Eufaula; two brothers, Curtis Ussery Jr., and Wm. Larry Ussery; three sisters, Sandy U. Dawson, Cindy U. Shivers and Barbara U. Smith.
