Mae Ona (Till) Whitfield – Obituary

Mae Ona (Till) Whitfield passed away Jan. 23, 2016 at St. Joseph Hospital Main in Tampa, FL following complications of surgery. She was born on July 26, 1929 in Riverton, Al to Herbert Paris Till and Elsie Mae (Feltman) Till and preceded in death by parents; husband, Warner M. Whitfield; sisters, Adlean Till George and Janice Till South; brother, Herbert Leon Till; and grandson, Matthew Whitfield. Mae graduated from Burnsville High School, MS in 1947 and over the years worked in administration / accounts receivable in retail, banking and hospital settings in Iuka, MS and Tampa, Fl. After her husband’s death in 1990, Mae retired, dedicating her life to her beloved family and to volunteer work. Ten years were devoted to the Lutheran Braille Workers in which Braille bibles were made and sent to the blind all over the world. Mae belonged to the Quilters Club at Wesley Memorial Church making quilts for children and veterans. She enjoyed playing bingo, socializing with the New Image Widow group, raising KOI fish and loving her precious dachshund, Lily. “Miss Mae” will be remembered for her strength, independence, and frugality as well as her very loving and generous spirit. She was greatly loved and will be missed by sisters, Lucille Till Seago of Guys, Tenn and June Till Brewer (Troy) of Tuscumbia, Al; daughter, Deborah Whitfield Roy of Clearwater, FL; sons, Steven Warner Whitfield (Beatriz Kelemen) of Ocala, FL; and Timothy K Whitfield (Tammy) of Jefferson, Me; grandson, Kory Whitfield of Damariscotta, Me; granddaughters Jennifer Roy Felton (Chris) of Cantonment, FL, Aimee Roy of Tampa, FL, Jessica Whitfield Sneckloth ( Brandon) of Apex, NC, Amanda Whitfield (Corey Nichols) of Richmond, Me and Lauren Roy (Michael Sulima) of Palm Harbor, FL; great grandsons Christopher Sneckloth, Christopher Felton and Myles Whitfield; former son in law, John (Edd) Roy of Pensacola, FL; stepdaughter, Patricia Whitfield Gill (Raymond) of Horseshoe, AK; nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, friends and neighbors. The family wishes to thank all the physicians and caregivers at St. Joseph for their compassion and support. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016 at Cutshall Funeral Home, 302 N. Pearl St, Iuka, MS 38852 with visitation at 10:00 AM.
