Elvia Estelle Cates – Obituary

Elvia Estelle Cates, age 100, a resident of Signature Healthcare in Columbia, TN passed away on the 24th of January.

Elvia was born on May 8, 1915 in Columbia to the late Inez and Odie Sims. She spent her life as a homemaker to her children and her late husband George Cates. Elvia was kind and loving, helping anyone, especially when is comes to raising children. She was always ready to throw in a helping hand. She loved drinking coffee and talking with her granddaughters. She was exceptional at making quits and loved doing it.

We will celebrate Elvia’s life on Wednesday January 27, 2016 at 2:00 at Williams Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 4-8 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Polk Memorial Gardens. Michael Cash, Donald Simmons, Gary Osborne and Jeff Morris will serve as pallbearers.

Elvia is survived by her two daughters: Rita Cates of Columbia and Ruth Halbrooks of Shady Grove; one son: Walter “Butch” Cates of Mt. Pleasant; four granddaughters: Tasha Cash, Jackie Kincaid, Felicia Morris, Debbie King, and Sabrina Harrington all of Columbia. Elvia is also survived by several great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her two daughters: Janice Haskins and Pam Dulio, and her granddaughter, Robbie Cates.
