athens policeATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson released a statement asking for the public’s help in identifying two suspects in a robbery:

“Late Sunday night shortly after 10:00, the police department received a call of a robbery at the Citgo station on US 72 East near I-65. When officers arrived they talked with the store manager. He told officers a male walked into the store and went to the beer cooler. The male then walked to the counter with a 12 pack of Budweiser. The manager told the male he couldn’t sell him alcohol because it was Sunday. The male then pulled a black handgun from his right side and told the manager to give him the money. After the male got the money he left walking over to Krystal’s and got into a black Suzuki XXL-7 of a Grand Vitara. The vehicle left a Krystal’s and went south on I-65.
When investigators looked the video they saw where the vehicle in question had actually pulled into the Citgo station a few minutes before the robbery. A second white male wearing a navy ball cap with a yellow bandana under it, a black leather coat, tan shirt and dark jeans had exited the vehicle and entered the store. The male went to the beer cooler got beer and went to the counter. After the manager wouldn’t sell the beer the male left the store and the vehicle left the parking lot and pulled into Krystal’s.
I have attached images we were able to recover. The quality is not great but it’s the best we can get at this time. If anyone has any information in this case we ask they call the Athens Police Department at 256-233-8700.”
