Please join us in celebrating the life of Beatrice (Betty) May Mathews (Williams). Betty’s spirit departed this earth at age 77, here in Guntersville, on January 19, 2016, in her home on O’Brig Avenue, with close family by her side.
Born in Fairfield, Alabama, she grew up in Alabama and graduated high school in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She went on to live in Florida serving as President of the Garden Club for years and served as a member of the board at Jordan Marsh. She then lived in Alabama, and Louisiana. Next she worked for the State of Louisiana’s Department of Revenue, retiring in 1998. Betty came to join the Guntersville community as resident in 2000 with her husband Don, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A lifelong flower and plant lover, Betty continued to follow her passion and delight through her local Master Gardener’s affiliation in Alabama. A prolific reader and generous soul, she enjoyed volunteering at the Guntersville Public Library.
She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Don, her children Stewart (Jing), Steven (Etta) and Pam, stepchildren Douglas (Kimberly) and Tim, grandchildren William & Patrick (Stewart), Lauren (Steve), Christopher & Bradley (Pam) and Will & Lilli (Douglas).
Visitation will be Saturday 23rd beginning at 11:00 to 2:00 pm followed with a memorial service at 2 o’clock pm at Carr Funeral Home in Guntersville, AL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Betty’s memory to Hospice of Marshall County, Shepherds Cove, whose staff provided the attentive care she so needed. Carr Funeral Home directing.
