Jimmy Doyle Thompson, age 71, of Florence, passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016.
A Memorial Service will be Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, at 6 p.m. at Spry-Williams Funeral Home, Florence. The family will receive friends 5-6 p.m., with the entombment at a later date at Piney Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson was of the Baptist faith, was a volunteer with Hospice of the Shoals and retired from Lauderdale County Waste Management. He also was an avid astronomer and philosopher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jonas and Louella Thompson; siblings, Dave Thompson, Tim Thompson, Margie Cornelius, Angela Clemmons and Mattie Staggs; and grandson, Stephen Thompson.
Survivors include his wife of 54 Years, Ellen Sue Thompson; children, Myra Nixon and husband, John, Ellen Smith, Lee Thompson and wife, Carla, Matt Thompson and wife, Corina, Jason Thompson and wife, Felicia, and William Thompson; sister, Shelly Spencer; and brothers, Cliff Thompson and Anthony Thompson.
