Charles Robert Newbury, Sr. entered this world in Boyd, Wisconsin on November 12, 1926, and departed it in Florence, Alabama on December 18, 2015. Praise God for a life well lived. Charles was a proud veteran of WWII and the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He retired from TVA where he was a Senior Operator Hydro. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, where he attended the JOY Sunday School Class faithfully. Charles devoted himself to the service of God, church, and his family throughout his life.
The funeral service will be at Greenview Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 11 a.m. with Bart Bowling officiating, preceded by visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow the service in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, and mother of his children, Mary Fulmer Newbury; his wife, Christine Crowson Newbury; parents, Walter and Emma Newbury; sisters, Alice Bewley, Betty Johnson, and Marie Jones.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Millinea Truitt Newbury; brother, Glenn Newbury of Florence; children, Robert Newbury (Gail) of Lafayette, Colorado, Carol Jones (Mike) of Florence, and Paula Saunders (John) of Hoover, Alabama; grandchildren, Mark Newbury (Katie), Cara Redhorn (Clark), Seth Newbury, Molly Saunders, Stephen Saunders, Joseph Saunders, and Emily Jones; and great-grandchild, Glenn Redhorn. He is also survived by Millinea’s children, Joan Miller (Roger), Carol Bevis (Bob); and two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James United Methodist Church.
