Funeral services for Mildred Wylodean Crowden, 87, of Somerville will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel on Dec. 16, 2015 at 11 a.m. with Dr. Shane Lewis and Dr. Kevin McCreless officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Crowden passed from this life on Dec. 14, 2015, after a long illness. She was born Jan. 22, 1928, to Alvin Lewis McCreless and Bessie Copeland McCreless. She was a member of Somerville Baptist Church, retired from NASA and was a partner in Crowden and Son Bulldozer and Construction Co. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered by her friends for her many hobbies, generously giving of her gardening ideas, and dividing her plants and flowers throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry L. Crowden; her parents and brothers, Alvin C. “Tip”, Macon, and Bryce L. “Sonny” McCreless. Survivors include her son, Henry Alvin “Al” Crowden (Susan) of Somerville; grandson, Justin Alvin Crowden (Savannah); great-grandchildren, Drake Henry and Layla Reece Crowden of Priceville; brother, Malcolm Luveral McCreless; sisters, Betty Ann Dinsmore, Doris Eloise Grubbs, all of Decatur, and Gaynell Matzaganian, Banning, California and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be nephews and friends.
We extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Rodney Harney, her caregivers, Angela Mitchell, Vickey and Jennifer Dougett and Ada Jackson, Patti Wiley, Mrs. Lile, Hospice of the Valley and HGH for the care and comfort extended to our mother and grandmother during her illness.
