The temps were chilly and more than 200 children dressed for the Christmas weather, enjoyed steaming cups of hot chocolate and watched as the mayor, firefighters and police officers celebrated Christmas with them by lighting the Christmas tree and of course…Santa was there with presents all round.

There were Christmas carols led by the jolly elf himself.  The night was magical and everyone had the warm spirit of Christmas as the tree was lighted and the children laughed and smiled as the gifts were opened and Santa was on hand to make sure everyone found the spirit of Christmas.

City employees, the Athens Mayor’s Youth Commission, Beta Club and even Santa felt the Christmas spirit last night as the Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park Committee held its annual tree lighting and gave toys to children whose families need some help with Christmas. Those who drew a lucky ticket got a bicycle.
