James Reeder Carson died at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital on Oct. 31 following an extended illness. James was 75 years old.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Reeder Carson and Mary Valerine (Daniel) Carson, both of Florence, and his brother, William Carson, of Florence.
He is survived by his daughter, Leigh Carson, of Tuscumbia; and his son, Alex Carson, of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Adam Trantham, of Nashville, Tennessee, and Lilly Carson, of Florence; a sister, Suellen Lee, of Columbia, Tennessee; and a number of extended family members.
He attended Coffee High School in Florence and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
He was a military police officer in the army following which he served in the Reserves. He was honorably discharged.
James spent much of his career in Nashville, Tennessee, where he worked in advertising, public relations, and videography: production and direction. As creative director of the advertising agency where he worked, he was instrumental in securing awards for excellence both locally and nationally. He was the author of three novels.
In recent years, while working on a number of writing projects, James split his time between Florence, Alabama, and Columbia and Nashville, Tennessee. He spent much of his time with family, friends and his beloved German Shepherds. He is dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Graveside services will be today at 11 a.m. at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens, 2601 Florence Blvd., with plans for a memorial celebration of life in the next few months.
In lieu of flowers, you may consider a donation in James’ honor to Florence Public Library or the American Cancer Society.
Special thanks go to the CCU nursing staff at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital who provided compassionate care throughout James’ illness and courtesy to his family.
