downloadMONTGOMERY-On Wednesday, October 28 U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson issued an order that directed the State of Alabama to restore funding to Planned Parenthood.

In August Governor Bentley stated that he was ending all state funding to Planned Parenthood. The Governor stated he did not want Alabama associated with an organization that does not respect human life,

Planned Parenthood Southeast filed suit against Alabama in Federal Court after state funding ceased.  Their argument that Alabama did not have a legal reason to end the Medicaid provider agreements with the two clinics in the state.

This ruling is the latest victory for Planned Parenthood in their confrontations with the Republican majority over funding of their programs.

Governor Robert Bentley on Wednesday released a statement in response to the Court’s order of preliminary injunction in the Planned Parenthood Southeast lawsuit. The Governor’s statement is below.

“For the last two months, Alabama has denied payment to Planned Parenthood Southeast. The good news is that as a result of the strong opposition by Alabama and a few other states to the practice of accepting reimbursement for harvesting fetal organs, the national Planned Parenthood organization has changed course and will no longer continue this deplorable practice. I am disappointed, and vehemently disagree with the Court’s ruling today. We are reviewing the opinion and will determine the next legal steps within the appeal period.”
