ATHENS-Come to Athens in November.  Athens has a host of fun activities and events for the moth of November.  Bring your family and enjoy the crisp November air in Athens.  Do not forget the last couple of days in October there is plenty of Tricks and Treats to finish out the month!

Thursday, Oct. 29, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Athens-Limestone Tourism
Taste samples of dishes from Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Panama and Columbia to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Bottled water will be provided. Free event hosted by the local Latino community and Athens-Limestone Tourism.

Domestic Violence Walk92
Thursday, Oct. 29, 5 p.m., Beasley Field and downtown
Sponsored by Athens State Chapter of the AAUW. Start at Beasley Field, walk to downtown around The Square and back to university. In the event of rain, will move to the gym. Please wear something purple for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Maggie Moos will be in the ice cream parlor and will give 15 percent of proceeds from ice cream and T-shirt sales to Healing Place Domestic Violence Shelter.

Hosted by the Athena League to raise funds for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Athens/Limestone and Joy’s House. Join the Athens-Limestone Hospital Foundation for this memorial run of Sherri Adams, a dedicated nurse who fought cancer and succumbed to complications in 2011. Money from the run is used to update mammography equipment and offer opportunities for early detection to women and men in the Limestone County. Participating merchants will have holiday sales, door prizes, etc. There will be a Merry Market inside the Center for Lifelong Learning with holiday vendors. Santa, Mother Christmas and special entertainment will be around downtown from 1-4 p.m. both days. Santa’s grand entrance via Athens Fire Department will be at 1 p.m. both days, and he will be available for photos from 1-3 p.m. at the Center for Lifelong Learning.
