James Valter Wade, better known as Valter, went to his heavenly home on October 19th. He was a “doer” and was always helping at his church, working on the farm or helping a friend.
His faith was very important to him. He left behind a legacy of faith and service. Valter was one of many who helped to secure our freedom during World War II, reaching the rank of sergeant in the U.S. Army.
Valter was a dedicated member of Somerville Masonic Lodge No. 721 for 63 years. He served as master of the lodge three times; district lecturer for 22 years; and served in The Grand Lodge of Alabama as senior grand deacon. Mr. Wade was also a member of the Shriners and The York Rite.
Valter had the distinction of being a founding member of S.A.V.E.S. fire department.
He was a vital member of Somerville United Methodist Church. Foremost, Valter was a Christian and this fact enables his family to have peace and a desire to celebrate his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, S.T. Goree Wade; a son, Jimmy Wade; and a grandson, Jon Wade.
He leaves behind his loving family: two sons, William “Billy” Wade (Debbie) and Lloyd Wade (Anita), all of Somerville. Grandsons are Thomas Wade (Abby) of Montgomery, Ryan Wade and Will Wade, both of Somerville.
Funeral service for Mr. Wade will be held in the Peck Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Al Dean and the Rev. John Walker officiating. Burial will be in Hartselle City Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2015.
In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorial donations be made to the Shriner’s Hospital.
