There will be a memorial service held Thursday, Oct. 22, at Petersville Church of Christ at 7 p.m. with Brother James Farris officiating.
Dalton began delivering papers at age nine and went on to work at Bush Jewelers, G. F. Wilson, Zales Jewelers, Walmart, where he served as a regional vice president in the jewelry division, ALCO Stores, and Fox Distributors in Sheffield, Alabama. Dalton had over 50 years in retail.
Dalton unexpectedly became a preacher when he moved to Cherokee, Oklahoma to serve as the manager for ALCO. Shortly after he and Carolyn arrived, their local congregation had an opening for a preacher. Dad took the responsibility on himself and had to learn a new vocation while working his main job the rest of the week. He later preached at Virden, Illinois before moving back home to North Alabama where he preached at the churches of Christ in the Wolf Springs and Oakland communities. What started by accident became a passion, and he devoted countless hours to the preparation of lessons. Whether serving as a Christian, a preacher or as an elder, Dad served the Lord with joy and gladness of heart.
Dalton’s life was the epitome of hard work, a strong love for his family and friends, and belief in the Bible.
Dalton will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of the Shoals.
