Wynona (Nonie) Gilley Byram – Obituary

wynonaWynona (Nonie) Gilley Byram, age 85, of Lynchburg, VA and formerly of Tishomingo and Iuka, Mississippi, passed away suddenly of natural causes on September 28, 2015, in Alamogordo, New Mexico, while visiting her daughter. Nonie was born on September 10, 1930, in Holcut, Mississippi, to Ernest and Annie Gilley. Mrs. Byram grew up in Tishomingo with her older sister, Ruby, and graduated from Tishomingo High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville State Teachers’ College and taught mathematics for more than 30 years at Burnsville, Iuka, and Tishomingo High Schools. Mrs. Byram married Morris Everette Byram of Tishomingo in August 1954. She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Ann, and her son, Morris Byram, Jr.; a sister, Ruby G. Nettles, nine grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and youngest son, Thomas Alan Byram. Nonie was much loved by her family, friends and students. She was a devout Christian. Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka is entrusted with arrangements. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, October 1, from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka, MS. Funeral services are to be held on Friday, October 2, at 11:00 A.M. at Tishomingo Baptist Church officiated by Bro. Robbie Crane. Interment will follow in Tishomingo Cemetery.
