John Wesley Slaton – Obituary

John Wesley Slaton, 88, of Decatur died Monday, September 21, 2015. A gathering of friends will be Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. A celebration of his life will begin at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Reverend Dale Dilbeck is officiating.
Mr. Slaton was preceded in death by his parents, James Newton Slaton and Sally Maude Etheridge Slaton; sisters, Bea Lovell, Bobbie McNutt, Christine Lewis and Faye Evans; and brothers, Jimmy Slaton and Alton Slaton.
He is survived by his son, Donald Slaton (Janice) and daughter, Angela Slaton.
Mr. Slaton was retired from Ingall’s Shipyard as a welder and a pipefitter, loved fishing, and was a member the Church of God of Prophecy. He also taught Sunday school for over 20 years.
Pallbearers include Darvin Waugh, Jordan McNutt, Dale and Tim Slaton, Bo Voss, Buddy Lewis and Shane Evans.
Roselawn Funeral Home is assisting the family.
