TVA Recognizes Athens Utilities as Top Performer

unnamedATHENS-The City of Athens Utilities has received an award for being a Top Performer in Energy Efficient New Homes. TVA presented the award during an Athens City Council meeting on Monday, Sept. 14.

 

Athens Utilities received the award because it enabled its customers to save a collective 2,159,117 kWh in 2014 through the TVA EnergyRight Solutions programs. This is the seventh straight year the local utility has made the top performer list.tva-energyright

 

Athens Utilities is a leader in customer education for energy efficiency. The utility ranked third among TVA’s service area for the New Homes Program, saving over 441,500 kWh.

Locally, participants became more energy efficient by adding insulation, using EnergyStar heat pumps and appliances, LED and CFL lightbulbs and replacing leaking windows with air tight energy efficient models.

 

“Promoting energy efficiency is the right thing for Athens Utilities to do,” said Mayor Ronnie Marks. “It helps customers save money, keeps the environment cleaner, and keeps energy costs more affordable.”

TVA Customer Service Manager Michael Clement said, “The EnergyRight Solutions Team and I want to personally thank Athens Utilities for all their efforts in helping make 2014 a great year for the Valley in terms of energy efficiency.”

In Fiscal Year 2014, TVA and local power company partners achieved impressive results:

-Saved 553 gigawatt hours through residential, business and industrial energy efficiency programs—enough energy to power 33,897 homes.

-Helped homeowners invest $68 million in energy efficiency improvements.utilities

-Provided $358 million in incentives that benefitted homeowners, local power companies, businesses and industries in the Valley.

-Created 3,408 jobs in the region, equaling eight jobs per every million dollars invested

 

EnergyRight Solutions services are the toolkit for the local power companies to serve their customers and members. They enable local power companies to be the preferred provider of energy efficient solutions.

Consumers benefit by living more comfortably, saving energy, and saving money. The Valley benefits from having a cleaner environment. The economy benefits by increased competitiveness through lower rates and improved system reliability.

 At last night’s Athens City Council meeting, the Council :

Approved Goss Electric Co. for work associated with construction of the new Limestone Creek Substation, $1,050,114
Approved the purchase of circuit breakers and spare parts for the new Limestone Creek Substation and the Greenbrier Substation, $134,945
Approved hiring Athens Fence to install the security fencing for the new Limestone Creek Substation, $23,300.
