Nelda “Dean” Tate, 81, died Aug. 17, 2015, at her residence. Her funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Jackson Memory Funeral Home with Brother Rick Gilley officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born Feb. 8, 1934, in Lawrence County, Alabama. She was a retired school bus driver for Hazelwood Schools for 27 years. She drove the bus for track, band, basketball, trade school, and field trips. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Town Creek. She was an avid Hazelwood, Alabama, and Braves fan. She loved cooking, camping, playing Skip-Bo, and taking family vacations at Gulf Shores. She loved her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Roger Tate (Carol) and Tim Tate (Tammie); four grandchildren, Casey Tate (Whitney), Courtney Akins (Matt), Abbie Carpenter (Elliot), and Andrew Tate; and two great-grandsons, Eli and Luke Akins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walton Clovis Tate, her parents, Homer and Octavia Tidwell, a sister, Shelby Blazer, and three brothers, Marvin Tidwell, John Tidwell, and Lumus Tidwell.
Pallbearers will be Casey Tate, Andrew Tate, Matt Akins, Elliot Carpenter, Brent Terry, Tony Tidwell, and Stacy Blazer. Special thanks to Gentiva Home Health, Renauta Dukes, Gentiva Hospice staff, and our precious caregivers, Brandie Cross, Kay Hallmark, Margaret Gaddis, Paulette Masterson, Connie Horton, and Annah Dickey.
