Billy Fred Montgomery, 77, died August 15, 2015.
Visitation will be today, August 17, 2015 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will follow in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Shane Lewis of Somerville Baptist Church officiating. Graveside service will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sammy Montgomery, Mark Montgomery, Larry Culp, Larry Alred, Jimmy Lemmond and Darren Tucker.
Mr. Montgomery was the sixth of seven children born to the late Clifton and Ruby Montgomery. One sister, Dorothy Montgomery and three brothers, James, Bobby, and Raymond Montgomery preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Montgomery; his two children, Rickey Montgomery and Vicki Kaye; five grandchildren, Matthew Montgomery, Nathan Montgomery, Mary Alice Berry, Julie Jasch and Andrew Kaye; two great-grandchildren, Gracie and Ada Berry; and two brothers, Leamon Montgomery and Thomas Montgomery.
Mr. Montgomery called Decatur his home for nearly 50 years. During those years he worked in retail sales, then in building and grounds maintenance for Decatur City Schools and Southside Baptist Church. He loved family, church, music and playing piano.
