FLORENCE-There was a discharging of a weapon in Florence on Saturday, august 8. Here is the statement and video of the incident from the Florence Police Department:
“Our department received a fight call at Cox Creek Park on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at 4:30 PM. Officers and supervisors with our department responded. Upon arriving at the scene it was found that all parties involved in the fight had left the area. The call was received by a third party who was not involved in the fight. A witness to the fight advised that a shot was fired by one of the parties involved in the fight. No additional calls were received regarding any person being struck by the bullet fired. Our officers checked local hospitals and no victims were located. Shortly before noon on Sunday a YouTube video surfaced titled, “Florence, AL Shooting Cox Creek Park 08/08/15.” As a point of clarification, no one was shot at Cox Creek Park. Discharging a firearm in the city limits is a misdemeanor offense in the City of Florence. Our department is continuing to gather information in hope of identifying the person who discharged a firearm in the park. This is unacceptable and reckless behavior that put lives at risk.
