Patricia “Pat” Sanders Free, 72, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at her home in Decatur. Pat is survived by her husband of 50 years, Dewey Waylon Free; a son, Michael Alan Free and wife, Sherri, of Candor, NC; and a daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Logan of Ladson, S.C. She leaves six grandchildren, Jonathan Free, Jessica Free, Jordyn Free, Benjamin Logan, Bethany Logan and Lydia Logan. She is also survived by one sister, Ann Heath of Decatur.
Pat was born May 5, 1943 in Decatur. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1961. Following high school, she attended Bob Jones University. Following college, she worked at the Army Missile Command Personnel Office and then Wolverine Tube in the Personnel Office until she married. She trusted Christ as her Savior at age seven while attending Vacation Bible School at Fairview Baptist Church of Decatur. She attended Fairview Baptist Church until married in 1964 and then attended Grace Baptist Church of Decatur for 23 years. While at Grace Baptist, she hosted a 30 minute program, Coffee Break, for about eight years on the church radio station, WBQM. She also was a substitute teacher in the church private Christian school.
In 1990, she joined Fairview Baptist Church of Decatur where her memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at noon, preceded by visitation two hours prior to the service. Pastors Michael Free, Brent Logan and Brian McLaughlin will be officiating under the direction of Shelton Funeral Home. Internment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ken Sinyard, George Bowers, DeWayne Wells, Lynn Doshier, Harry Jones and Dwight Free.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Missions Fund.
