Billy-Hamilton-1438098959Billy Wayne Hamilton, age 86 of Cherokee, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2015. His visitation will be Wednesday, July 29, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee. The funeral service will be Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Harris Chapel Baptist Church with Bro. Chuck Bradford officiating. Burial will follow in Harris Chapel Cemetery.

Billy was a lifelong resident of Cherokee and a member of Harris Chapel Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a retired computer operator from Armour Fertilizer Plant in Cherokee, and a Master Mason in the Cherokee Masonic Lodge. Billy was a former mayor of Cherokee for eight years and a Lt. Col. in the Alabama State Militia under George Wallace. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Hamilton.

Billy is survived by his daughters, Pamella H. Nichols of Warner Robins, GA and Ann H. Burcham and husband, Pete of Warner Robins, GA; grandchildren, Lacye K. Nichols of Denver, CO, Sarah Ann Burcham and Mary Callie Roberts, both of Warner Robins, GA; great-grandchildren, Trevor, Dawson, Maci Jane, and Weston. He is also survived by Bill Purnell and wife, Sherri, Jan Jones, and Ladie Knight and husband, Ronnie; grandchildren, Laura Knight, Alison Ellis and husband, Stintson, Heath Jones, and Meg Swissord and husband, Jason; great-grandchildren, Rivers and Harrison; and dear friend, Pam.

Pallbearers will be Buddy and Scotty James, Andy Hamilton, Charlie Williams, Robert Lomenick, and Bob Lomenick.
