Martha Madge Chittam age 80 of Athens, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2015 AT Limestone Health Facility. Mrs. Chittam was born April 10, 1935 in Limestone County, AL to James Horton Newby and Cora Vessels Newby.
Services will be Saturday, July 25, 2015 3:00 p.m., at Sardis Springs Baptist Church with Tim Keenum officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial will be in Bottoms Cemetery.
Preceded in death by her parents, James Horton Newby and Cora Vessells Newby; two brothers, James Newby and Alan Newby; one sister, Naomi Newby Coffman.
Mrs. Chittam was a member of Sardis Springs Baptist Church. She was known for her care and concern for her family and valued family time. Her faith sustained her throughout her life and she leaves a legacy of love and faith.
Survived by one daughter, Deborah Nichols and husband, Robert of Sevierville, TN; one grandson, Adam Nichols and wife, Allie of Birmingham, AL; one sister, Bonnie Hearn of Florence, AL; several special nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Newby, Jerry Newby, James Newby, Jerry Allen Newby, John Newby and Shane Toone.
