Reverend Terry “Ted” David Bryson Jr., age 88, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015. Visitation will be today, 6-8 p.m. at Spry-Williams Funeral Home, Florence. The service will be Saturday, 11 a.m., at First United Methodist Church, Tuscumbia, Alabama. He will lie-in-state from 10-11 a.m. with the Rev. David Lee, Tom Fowler, Rickey Green, Carol Lambert, and Bryan McIntyre officiating. Burial will be at Sheffield Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Bryson, Chris Mason, Eric Thim, Bob Thim, Harlan Bryson, Tennis Barrier, Brett Burgess, Andy Hester, Wesley Smith, and John Franklin Mason.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Joe Flippen, Sam Flippen, Murphree Flippen, Joe Laster, Al Fain, Ben Richey, Gordon Hood, Mike Jones, Jim Mason, Tony Gargis, Larry Softley Jr., and Joshua Belue.
Ted was a graduate of Sheffield High School and Auburn University. During World War II he was in the Merchant Marine Cadet Corps and an ensign in the U.S. Navy. Ted was a businessman before answering the call to ministry. He was a retired United Methodist minister after 37 years of faithful service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane Flippen Bryson, daughter, Mary Ann Smith, parents, T.D. and Edith Bryson Sr, and sister, Edith “Bart” Chaffin.
Survivors are his wife and devoted sweetheart, Ellen Bryson; sons, David Bryson (Kathy), Auburn, Alabama, and Jonathan Bryson (Lori Beth), of Marietta, Georgia; daughter, Leah Beth Mason (Chris), of Gallatin, Tennessee; brother, Gene Bryson (Frances), of Florence, Alabama; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tuscumbia First United Methodist Church Scouting Program.
