William P. “Bill” Dilworth, III passed away July 1, 2015. He was the retired owner of Dilworth Lumber Company. He was a civic leader, serving on the Board of The Bank of Huntsville, a Rotarian, member of the Acme Club, member and past President of the Byrd’s Spring Rod and Gun Club, and former Warden of the Church of the Nativity. He especially enjoyed his monthly lunch partners of the “HOF”.
He was a lifelong outdoorsman, and hunted and fished locally and hunted geese and ducks in Canada and had fished for bass in Cuba. He graduated from Huntsville High School, attended the University of the South and graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute. He served his country in the U.S. Army, rapidly rising to the rank of Master Sergeant and returned to Huntsville to enter the family business, Dilworth Lumber Company.
He was proud to have seen Huntsville grow from the small town of his youth to the present day. He made his home near the house he was born in and loved to talk about wandering the fields and woods of what is now Blossomwood when he was young.
He lost a son, Walter Ivey Dilworth, to leukemia, and is probably already planning hunting and fishing activities with him. He was also preceeded by his parents William Penn Dilworth Jr. and Susie Baxter Dilworth and his brother in law and business partner Ernest “Tubber” Thiemonge.
He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Lorene; son, Penn (Angela); sister, Sarah Thiemonge; nephew and hunting partner, Jack Thiemonge (Chong Sook); niece, Susie Thiemonge; and cousin, Glenn Baxter (Linda).
Please join us for a graveside service Monday, July 6, 10 am at Maple Hill Cemetery. Father Andy Anderson will officiate.
