Funeral service for Walter “Curtis” Freeman, age 90, will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2015, at Mt. Hope Methodist Church with Larry Lang officiating with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service at Lawrence Funeral Home.
Mr. Freeman, who passed away Friday, June 19, 2015, at NHC Healthcare, was born May 5, 1925, in Lawrence County to Walter thomas Freeman and Nettie Foster Freeman. He was the owner of Clark Freeman Department Store and was a member of Mt. Hope Methodist Church. Mr. Freeman was also a World War II Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Irene Gilbreath and Adelle Tubb.
Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Freeman Singley and Austin, Decatur; grandson, Curtis “Jack”son Singley; granddaughters, Lee-Martin Sloan, Decatur, Lucy Matthews Sawyer, and Lily Marie Sloan, Decatur; great-grandsons, Elijah Sawyer and Judge Sawyer; great-granddaughters, Racheal Sawyer and Sloan Ackerman; Martha Gilbreath Hawkins; nephews and nieces and cousins and friends; nephew, Dennis Gilbreath and Jerry; and special friend, Audrey McCaghren.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Gilbreath, Austing Singley, Tab Garrison, Jimmy Cook, Bo Agee, Dayton Harris, and Trevor Garrison.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Liberty Sportsmen Club.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley or the American Cancer Society.
