berniceHeaven welcomed home an angel, Friday June 12, 2015. We honor the life of Bernice Wilson Shooter 91, of Florence. If the value of a person were to be measured by the love of their family, she was worth far more than gold. Her family was her life’s passion and she was loved by all who knew her.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Spry-Williams Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will noon-2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Florence City Cemetery.
She was born in Florence, Alabama, November 23, 1923 and resided there all of her life. She was the daughter of Richard Harvey and Roxie Wilson. She was preceded in death, by her husband, Ben Shooter. They met when he arrived by bus in Courtland, Alabama, where he was stationed during World War II. She knew immediately he was the one for her. They were married and shared their lives together for 66 years. She is survived by one daughter, Pamela Shooter Mitchell, and her husband, Larry, who have lived with her since Ben’s death.
She has 3 grandchildren; Amber Steranka (Kyle), Autumn Taylor (Nick) and April Mortimer (Micah) of Tennessee. She has 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
She was preceeded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters: Cecil, Orlan, Owen, Sylvia and Eria Wilson.
Pallbearers will be her 2 grandsons-in-law, Kyle Steranka and Micah Mortimer, and 6 great grandsons, Connor Mitchell, Aidan Steranka, Jace and Hudson Mortimer, and Caleb and Sam Taylor.
The anchor of our family, she taught us the melody of a giggle, the sweetness of a smile, quiet strength, enduring patience, the inseparable bond of family and the sweet taste of her pecan pie. You may sign the guest register at sprywilliams.com
