Annie Rita Ashburn
October 18, 1926 – June 9, 2015
On June 9, 2015 Rita went on to join her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. On the day of her passing, she was visited by many close friends and family members and attended by loving caregivers. She was 88.
Rita was born in Gurley, AL on Oct. 18, 1926 to Robert and Ola Ashburn. She spent much of her childhood caring for her younger brother as two older brothers went off to war. After high school, she attended Florence State Teachers College, receiving her BS in Elementary Education. She worked many years as a teacher and secretary, after which she cared for her aging mother.
Rita is survived by a brother, Bill Ashburn (Shirley); nieces, Judy Nayman (Glenn) and Allison Lynch (Scott); nephews, Jim Ashburn (Greta) and John Ashburn (Jennifer); and several grand-nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents Robert and Ola and brothers Robert Edward, Cecil, and Virgil.
A graveside service will be held at 10 am Saturday at Huntsville Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rita’s name to charity.
